My post is up over on the Nerdy Book Club. Click over to read why I write and what I watched over Thanksgiving Break.
So, one of the crazy things of having your book come out on the very day that you go back to work and school, is that you have no time to announce any of the fun little things that occur. Like, the kid who comes in after school to tell you that he “hears your voice reading aloud to him… Read more →
I finished up work this week. The library is inventoried and tallied and organized and all in Perfect Order . . . just in time for summer school to start on Monday. In inventorying (yes, I declare that a word) the library, I discovered two–TWO!–hidden ACTIVE network ports in electrical panels under the floor. This makes me inordinately happy because… Read more →
Yay, the final book in the “Friends for Keeps” series comes out this week! This one I read as an ARC. Then some savvy fifth graders spied it on my desk, convinced me to slap a barcode on it, and I didn’t see it again until the last day of school. Enjoy!

Summer is writing season for me. It’s also reading season. And this summer I’ve thrown down the gauntlet with my fourth and fifth graders. We’re in a race to see who… Read more →

We finished it with not a moment to spare at the end of the year. It consisted of reading lots of Caldecott books and checking out the different media… Read more →
(Things have been a little quiet around here lately, huh? Yeah, some extra, unexpected stuff happened last week. But things are coming closer to normal now.) Last week, a fifth grade girl came into the library after school. She’s one of my “regulars.” I’ve often suspected she comes more for the chats than the books. She’s nice, but needy. A… Read more →
