Very much looking forward to hobnobbing with Wisconsin’s library media specialists (and some author friends–look at that line-up!) at the WEMTA Author Fair!
Last week I took a few minutes out of my day to pop in to the school down the road. A group of fourth graders had been reading Malcolm with their librarian. It was a short visit, but so much fun!

A welcome banner. Look closely–all the critters are there (and I think we’ve got some future illustrators in the group. WOW!).

The students presented me with a “Comf-E-Cube,” stuffed full of things from the book. I wish I had a better picture–the attention to detail was amazing! A dictionary, a broken collar, a pair of reading glasses, a green hair elastic, Poptart crumbs…it was incredible!
So, one of the crazy things of having your book come out on the very day that you go back to work and school, is that you have no time to announce any of the fun little things that occur. Like, the kid who comes in after school to tell you that he “hears your voice reading aloud to him more »
I finished up work this week. The library is inventoried and tallied and organized and all in Perfect Order . . . just in time for summer school to start on Monday. In inventorying (yes, I declare that a word) the library, I discovered two–TWO!–hidden ACTIVE network ports in electrical panels under the floor. This makes me inordinately happy because more »
Yay, the final book in the “Friends for Keeps” series comes out this week! This one I read as an ARC. Then some savvy fifth graders spied it on my desk, convinced me to slap a barcode on it, and I didn’t see it again until the last day of school. Enjoy!
The fact that this Friday Five is being posted on a Sunday night is indicative of the week I just had. Oof. Some good. Some bad. A lot of stress. Let’s start with the good.
