Now that Snip the cat is gone—but hardly forgotten—Malcolm the rat and the other classroom animals of the Midnight Academy are ready for things to get back to normal at McKenna School. After all, protecting nutters (students) and lankies (teachers) is an around-the-clock job.
But after a year’s worth of broken windows, leaky pipes, and now, faulty wiring (really, Malcolm didn’t mean to cause most of those!), the school board is considering closing the aging school. Are there some things that are too big even for the Midnight Academy’s paws?
Malcolm doesn’t think so, and, aided by his best nutter friend, Amelia Vang, he ventures into the shadowy history of the Midnight Academy to track down an old legend of missing money. The trail leads him into the dangerous Outside world, full of suspicious characters, new friends, and complicated favors. Once again there are more secrets in the halls of McKenna than there are crumbs in Malcolm’s Comf-E-Cube.
Then the unthinkable happens, and Malcolm is left to wonder: is it possible to solve the mystery, save the school, and still not get what you want? And what if doing what you Know in your heart is right goes against everything you want most? Again, illustrated by Brian Lies.
