November Authorly News

A paperback release date, school visit pics, more pet rats, and a holiday signing!

Malcolm in Paperback

Malcolm at Midnight

I got an email from my editor, so I think it’s safe to announce: Malcolm at Midnight will be released as a paperback in September 2014!

Anyway, not every book goes to paperback, so I feel very grateful that Malcolm will. To celebrate, I’ve been driving my family crazy by singing the Beatles’ “Paperback Writer” while cooking and driving. The paperback will look exactly the same–because you just can’t improve on Brian Lies’s art.

More News: Chippewa Valley Book Festival

In October, I visited with four (4!) schools in one day for the Chippewa Valley Book Festival. As you might imagine, I met all sorts of kids with great questions. Unfortunately, I don’t have pictures of my visits (this is what happens when you’re zipping from one place to another!), but since then, I’ve gotten loads of fun pictures and notes in the mail. Thanks readers!

“My favorite character is Malcolm. He is one loving rat.” Yes, he is.

One lucky class’s teacher got them two pet rats, which they named…Malcolm and Midnight!

Their amazing teacher!

“That was inspiriting.” I love that word. I may have to use it somewhere. (Sorry for the wonky shadows. Didn’t realize that was happening when I took the pics.)

And Coming Up

My local public library is hosting a local author day starting at 10:30 on Saturday, December 7. 12 authors (6 kidlit–including me!; 6 adult) will read and sign books. Bring your books or buy one at the program. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the Give-A-Kid-A-Book program sponsored by the Friends of the Library. And there’s refreshments! And door prizes! Hope to see you there if you’re in the neighborhood.
